Pip is a devious, dangerous, 8-year-old girl with brown hair and dark hazel eyes. She is portrayed by Maya Massaway, sister of Lili actress, Lilly Massaway.
Pip, in life, is a smiley, cheerful girl with an infectious smile that is identicle to that of her sister, Lili’s. She is best friends with Makayla, and does everything with her. Her father left her family when she was a baby, and never knew him. She thought of Lili as a motherly figure, since their mother was always away and they lived with their grandparents, who had little regard for them. She and Lili were born in East Port, Maine, and moved in with their grandparents in Biddeford. One fateful day, which sparks the events of the book and film, Pip decides to ignore Lili’s warning about staying inside and runs into the woods. She is struck by a falling tree once she is too deep into the woods to find her way back. She is then crushed to death by the tree.
Overtime, she is buried in leaves, and her grandmother won’t let anyone search her property. So, in the legitimacy of the small city, she is pronounced dead after a month by the authorities.
After death, Pip’s spirit is ruthless and angry, and her goal is to scare the inhabitants of her home away, especially Lili. Once Lili’s team is assembled, Pip begins terrorizing everyone, so that Lili will give up. She does this by manifesting herself as something they all love...or are terrified of. In the case of Sophie, Jack, and Carter, it was physical things. With Jack and Carter, the boy who had a crush on her, she scared them with their own football, something they loved. In the case of Sophie, she used her fear of germs against her, mockingly touching her, which she didn’t like.
In the case of Lili, Makayla, and Matt, it was psychological. She used Matt’s fear of not understand things to scare him away from trying to get rid of her. She used Makayla’s trust and faith that Pip was still her best friend to get her to run away. Pip ultimately used Lili’s faith and sense of bravery against her to break her down.
In the end, after the group discovers Pip’s real body, she is sucked back in, and is removed from the world once again.
