Lili is a kindhearted, adventurous, 13-year-old girl with dirty blonde hair and light hazel eyes. She is portrayed by Lilly Massaway, sister of Pip actress, Maya Massaway.
Lili is a daring and dauntless young girl with a bright mind and an even brighter soul. She is very outgoing and cheerful, despite having lost her only sibling. She is quite sad about the loss of her little sister, Pip, but she doesn’t let it majorly affect her personality.
She finds comfort in knowing that her best friend, Sophie’s, little sister, Makayla, who was Pip’s best friend, feels as mich sadness as she does. But the two agree to not let her death change them for the worst.
She finds humour in the bickering of her friends, but chooses to insert herself in the breaking-up of their arguments. She finds herself wanting to keep the peace and harmony amongst her friends, so that none of them ever stray apart. She loves her friends, seeing them as more of a family than her own.
Lili is a natural-born protector, but has been forced into an overly-protective shell as part of having a disfunctional family. As a young child, her parents divorced and her mother became a secluded business woman. She often left Lili and Pip with their grandparents, who they lived with, to take excessively, and purposefully so, long trips with her work to avoid making contact with the girls. Lili and Pip were both born in East Port, Maine, but moved in with their grandparents in Biddeford. Lili found herself needing to protect Pip in every way possible as she grew older. After Pip’s death, she starts exhibiting these behaviors towards Sophie.
At first, Lili doesn’t want to believe that Pip is dead. So, when the time comes that Lili must personally defeat Pip, it is exceptionally difficult. But, a wisened Lili knows Pip’s every weakness, even if it hurts Lili to use them against her.
Lili is merely shocked when Pip hurts her, but comes to realize that Pip is no more, it is just a Poltergeist that was created by Pip’s energy.
Lili often butts heads with her brother-like friend, Matt. The two have very different ideas on what happened to Pip that caused her death and who she is in her ghostly form. Lili wants to believe that Pip is still just a scared little girl, but Matt, being a kid of science, believes that Pip’s energy left her body once she died and manifested into an angry, undefeatable Poltergeist. He believes Pip can no longer feel emotions, which angers Lili, and strains their relationship during the hunt.
Actress Lilly Massaway has a few tricks to becoming Lili. They all rely on Lili’s psych. Lili, as learned in the sequel, is mentally unstable and imagined the entire sequence of the first story and film. In the movie, several hints are placed at this. The ever-changing seasons is one. One second, it is early fall, the next, it’s late fall, the next, it’s late spring. It’s noted that the first movie takes place in October in Biddeford, Maine, but it one scene, there is snow, and in the next, it appears that the trees are just changing color for the first weeks of fall. Another, one of Lilly’s additions, is Lili’s constantly changing costume. The book and film takes place over the course of two days, and Lili’s jacket stays the same. But her pants change several times. In one shot, she is wearing blue jeans, in another, she’s wearing gray joggers, in another, she’s wearing black leggings. Lilly has also pointed out Lili’s athletic skill, and being in running sports herself, Lilly finds it fun to do Lili’s full-hearted running and spontaneous stunts.
